NMITSA October luncheon features Microsoft Vice President, Richard McAniff
The New Mexico Information Technology & Software Association announced today their October membership meeting event, which will feature special guest speaker Richard McAniff from Microsoft Corporation. As a vice president for Microsoft® Office, Richard McAniff oversees a team of more than 200 software professionals responsible for several major software tools, including Excel and Access, within Microsoft Corp.’s Office suite. McAniff will be of special interest to New Mexico IT professionals; as a federal employee with the Department of Energy in Albuquerque in the eighties, the former Sandian left the laboratory to join Microsoft in 1987.
The event will be held at the Albuquerque Marriott Uptown on Friday, October 1 st from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The first half hour will featuring a networking opportunity for attendees, prior to lunch and the featured program. Cost for the event is $25 for NMITSA members, $30 for Non-members, and $40 at the door. NMITSA is now accepting payment by credit card for this event. Mr. McAniff will speak on the 1st of October, 2004.

His roles at Microsoft involve the business intelligence effort within Office, development of Web components for the SharePoint™ Portal Server, and the use and integration of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) within Office. McAniff strives to boost the productivity and potential of users through the addition of enhanced analytical tools, Web capabilities and other enhancements to Office.
McAniff helped guide the development of Office 97, Office 2000 and the Windows® XP operating system. Before his current position, he ran the development teams for the Visual Basic® development system and the FoxPro® database, and helped in Microsoft’s acquisition and transition of Fox Software. He also helped design and served as a senior program manager for the Access 1.0 database, and served as a program manager for the LAN Manager group, where he worked on the company’s first big networking product.
McAniff holds a master’s degree in system engineering/operation research from the University of Arizona and a bachelor of science degree in economics and mathematics from the University of Massachusetts.
McAniff is an avid snowboarder, windsurfer and rock climber. His list of outdoor achievements includes scaling the 2,600-foot El Capitan in the Yosemite National Park.
He has one daughter and two sons.
