New Mexico Information Technology & Software Association supports Quality of Life Initiative
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., October 19th, 2006 – The NMITSA executive committee, acting on behalf of the board of directors voted to support the 2006 Quality of Life Initiative.
The Quality of Life Initiative is an investment in the community – its culture, history, art and science. Voters will be asked to approve one-fourth of 1 percent increase in the gross receipts tax to help expand programs of hundreds of organizations. Tax proceeds will benefit organizations from the zoo to theater and music groups.
This is different from the city’s existing 1 percent for art programs, which provide funding for permanent, public artworks.
NMITSA, the state’s largest business advocacy organization for information technology and software industries, has long recognized the Albuquerque-Bernalillo County metro area as a creative center sought out by companies and individuals seeking an innovative environment.
Many existing groups and venues face funding challenges that limit access and services. The Quality of Life Initiative will provide a competitive and transparent funding mechanism that would support our arts and culture community. “NMITSA recognizes the benefit the proposed Quality of Life Initiative will have upon the Albuquerque community and supports the initiative as foundational to making Albuquerque an even more desirable place to live and conduct business,” said NMITSA Chairman Brad Key.
---The New Mexico Information Technology and Software Association (NMITSA) is a statewide information technology and software industry advocacy organization that provides focused, value-added services and initiatives to both industry and associate members.
