Economic development means jobs
New Mexico Business Weekly - January 3, 2003We're relieved to hear that uber networker-man-about-town Randy Burge had been appointed Science and Technology Division Director at the State Department of Economic Development. Burge, who helped form the New Mexico Information Technology and Software Association, (NMITSA), has been involved in reviving the Santa Fe-area's Coronado Ventures Forum, and has been a tireless advocate of developing some kind of technology/hipster culture in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, including organizing the networking group "The Safari Club" as well as informal Club Rhythm and Blues outings. However, Burge's efforts were largely gratis, a function of his big personality. Now he's got a secure job that seems perfectly suited to his skills. "Randy had worked with the department for about eight years in late-'80s, early-'90s," says Cabinet Secretary-appointee Rick Homans. "His whole experience in NMITSA, getting people talking to each other and working with each other, are his great skills." Noreen Scott, powerhouse behind Rio Rancho's economic development office, has also landed herself a seat in the department.
