The New Mexico Information Technology and Software Association (NMITSA) announced the winners of its first annual New Mexico IT Excellence Awards last week.
About 150 attended the recognition ceremony and awards dinner on Oct. 14 at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.
The awards, presented in nine categories, recognize outstanding achievement and leadership in several areas including custom and commercial software development, innovative research and industry leadership.
Brad Key, director of software and systems at Apogen Technologies and NMITSA chairman, says he was pleased with the dinner’s turnout and thinks the annual awards will benefit both the industry and NMITSA.
Nominations for the awards came in from nearly every corner of the state including Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Las Vegas and eastern New Mexico.
“That’s really key if we’re going to have this be the New Mexico IT Excellence Awards,” Key says.
Additionally, the annual awards ceremony will lend more visibility to the state’s information technology sector and may help with recruitment by showing outsiders there are plenty of opportunities here in one of the state’s most developed technology industries.
“We’ve said for a long time that the IT industry is one of the unsung heroes here,” Key says.
Winners of the 2005 New Mexico IT Excellence Awards and their respective categories are:
Access Data Corp. won in the category of best commercial software solution; Apogen Technologies won in the category of best customer software solution; Michael Wallace and Associates won in the category of best innovative research solution; Contact Wireless won in the category of best integrated systems solution; Technology Integration Group (TIG) won in the category of best IT infrastructure solution and; Adelante Development Center won in the category of best IT support solution.
